Answer the questions below and respond to two other posts.

How has using the hovercam helped you during instruction?  What way(s) have you found to incorporate it in your instruction?

Re: February

Using the hovercam has been nice since I don't have to plan in advance which copies will be used as a transparency.  I can very easily scan any worksheet we are doing that seems to be more difficult than I anticipated and model the exercise for my students. I have modeled correct handwriting strokes, highlighted different areas on maps, and worked  a variety of Saxon math lessons.

You are really getting into using it!  I'll call you when I get mine if I need help.  I would love to be able to use one for some "teachable moment" things that aren't really written in lesson plans.  Looks like this "old dog" will have to learn some new tricks.

I am posting rather late but I was one of the "old dogs" that had to learn new tricks. My students have been a tremendous help along with Sharon Littlefield.

I must be an "old dog" too Charlotte because I just haven't found it as simple to use as everyone keeps saying it is.  Maybe I should try asking my students for help!!

That is the main thing I like about the hover cam...no need to scan something- and you can spur of the moment choose to use it.

I really like this.  Many times in the past I wished that I had planned in advance to have an overhead of a worksheet.  Now, I can use the hovercam anytime.

This is so nice, when a teachable moment can be used without having to plan ahead with transparencies. now that the kinks are about out of the equipment, I like it.

I agree that the hovercam makes it easy to teach a lesson or demonstrate how to work a problem on the spur of the moment and with many options--you can scan a blank page and write with the mimeo board, place the page under the camera and write with the mimeo board, or place it under the camera and write on the page with a pencil.

I know.  I got so tired of scanning things at the beginning of the year (before I received my hovercam) and also of trying to find the document in a file.

I love this too. I'd had some problems trying to get ALL of something to fit and have found that using the 1:1 click has helped and also the minimize and maximize too.

Since I do not have the hovercam, I have just wished I had one.  After Ms. Sandy demonstrated one, I promised to ask for one for my room.  I can see so many uses for it in science.  From showing documents, study guides, and practice work to experiments, demonstrations, and "look-what-I-brought-to-schools", the possibilities for using it are endless.

The hovercam is the most excellent technology tool I've ever used. It is well worth waiting for. With the science demonstrations you do, it will be the most excellent resource you'll have too.

It sure helps to show skills at a review. I can show and review 2 or 3 skills before I start my daily class.  This is convenient. When we do our daily spiral review, we check it with the hovercam.  Just love it for vocaulary.

I have also used mine to review skills. When we went over LA, I kept the different pictures there to quickly review location of our parish and town, state capitol, and state symbols.  It has been great for identifying coins.  I put a hand full of manipulative coins there and just point without having to pass out coins to the entire class.

Re: February (4)

We don't have my hovercam hooked up yet.  There isn't enough space beside my laptop to  house the camera.  We are going to have to rewire some of my computers and move the laptop to make room for it.  I'm eager to get it hooked up, but haven't had the time to make the change.  There is never a time I'm not using the laptop/mimio/projector to do all this.

I walked into Meridith's classroom one day last week and watched her use it for their math lesson.  She had different students come to the camera and count out certain money amounts using pennies.  I thought it was very neat that all of her students could actually see their classmates' fingers counting out the coins.  They were able to count along with him.

Using the hovercam has done away with the overhead and those transparencies. My class was so excited the first time we used it with money because they could actually see the money as they put it on the item they were buying. They really did well with counting the money.

The Hovercam helps me with instruction because I can actually monitor my students more closely as I demonstrate whatever I'm doing on the Hovercam. I use it for all my instruction. I even use it for my small group during RTI while Kaylon is in the back with the other group. I put up the Saxon phonics cards to sound out words or the pictures as we place different games while they stand on the oval rug.

Re: February (9)

I use my hovercam almost everyday.  It is wonderful to use with maps as well as to show students information from my personal books.  I previously had to "pass around" the books to the class. This was often an ineffective and rushed process. The hovercam makes it possible for all of my students to see the source and listen as I discuss it.   I also must admit that it is also extremely  nice not to have to make transparencies anymore.

Yes, it is very nice not to have to deal with setting up the overhead.  I still use my book of transparencies for math, but just place the whole book under the hovercam.

Having the hovercam has made it possible to put items up on the screen so that all students can see.  I helps to save paper because we don't have to copy a page for everyone.  It can also be used on the spur of the moment if you have something to share with the students.  Sometimes they can share their work with the class.
I was able to use the hovercam during iLEAP prep in my math classes in place of the overhead projector.  I had a notebook full of transparencies with "Problem of the Day" in correlation with our math textbook.  I just placed the entire notebook under the hovercam and we worked as many problems as we wanted just flipping through page by page.  It was colorful, visible to everyone, and we were all able to discuss each problem and solve together.

I also used the hovercam during LEAP preparation.  It was easier for students to understand the more difficult problems when they could watch me work them on the screen, step-by-step.  They each had practice books also and were able to copy each step as I worked it.

I use the hovercam daily with spelling, reading, and math.  I write the spelling words in cursive and explain how to form each letter correctly.  In reading, I write the answers to the homework assignments, modeling complete sentences for the students.  In math, we work our classwork problems and check our homework on the hovercam.

Using the hovercam has been easier than the overhead projector because I do not have to make transparencies and keep up with them.  I also like how you can use colored pens to write on papers that you are projecting.

The hovercam helps me because I can do direct instruction with the children and we will have the exact same page.  This helps them follow along better and keep up.  I also use it to show pictures of different things to my children.  For example, I took pictures of baby birds at my house.  The birds were just born so they didn't have any feathers on them.  I had already explained this fact about birds to my students but it helped them to see it.

The hovercam will cut down on the number of copies you have to make and time it takes to make those copies.  It will allow you to be able to show the whole class a picture, diagram, page in a book at the same time so everyone is together.  It is also good for times when you may think of something to show the class on a spur of a moment, you will be able to show them right then.

The Hovercam is wonderful because I am not always able to scan every sheet to put on the Mimio. Also, objects can be scanned for the class to view at the same time. The Hovercam saves time.
